"How pretty...." Miyuki murmured.

She didn't know enough about white elves to know if music was even a thing in their culture.

"Though.. does this mean there's a village near by?"

"It must," Kyrie frowned.

"It's hard to tell, but I think it may be a woman," Shoneah murmured. "A girl anyways."

She stepped forward for a better look, and her foot knocked against a stone, sending it tumbling down the mountainside. Immediately, the music stopped, and the musician - as well as almost every single unicorn - looked sharply up towards the sound.

Kyrie cursed softly under her breath. "Don't move," she hissed.

She frozen, and hoped at the very least that the unicorns wouldn't go stampeding. That was always a great risk, especially when such a large herd of them.

Though she also wondered what the person would do.

The figure rose to its feet, holding the instrument to its chest, and looked as though it was about to run away, but strangely, it was one of the unicorns who stopped it, nosing her (or him, Shoneah still wasn't 100% sure) back onto the rock. Once the person was seated - though not playing music anymore - the same unicorn turned towards the mountain again.

Suddenly, a voice became audible in the minds of the three women on the mountainside, and it said only one word:

Come.

"So they also talk...." Miyuki murmured.

Well talk was not the right word, but she now remembered why she thought of it was talking. Since it was clear they weren't going to running for the hills and it already knew that they were there. Miyuki made the first move to go down there.

Shoneah started after Miyuki immediately, but Kyrie was a few paces behind them. They made their way carefully down the mountainside, and as they grew closer to the unicorns, the crowd of creatures parted, making a clear path between the three of them and the girl (for they were now close enough to see that it was a girl) sitting on the rock.

The same unicorn stayed next to the girl, who was clutching her instrument tightly, her expression a mix of hope and terror.

As they moved between the unicorns, they could hear various comments the creatures made.

Never seen creatures like these before, one of them commented.

Another added, They smell of dragons.

And sweat.

There was a nicker of laughter from several of the unicorns, loudest from the younger ones.

It was weird hearing them all in her head, even though logically she knew she had this experience before. It was just she didn't remember it. Though that did beg the question to her, could Ai do the same thing?

It was one of those silly thoughts she tended to have to keep her distracted from the building questions she had about the girl they've just found.

When they came close, the unicorn who remained between them and the girl stopped them and asked all of them at once, What are you doing here?

"Ira, no," protested the girl in the White Elven tongue. "This isn't necessary!"

The unicorn snorted at her, then turned back to the three women.

Shoneah didn't know who was going to answer, but since Kyrie was their guide, she decided to leave it to her. Instead, she looked at the pale girl they'd discovered. Like Mailon, she was entirely white - her skin, her eyes, her hair - and what little clothes she was wearing were white furs. Yet there was a purple spot on her cheek, just below one eye, and Shoneah couldn't help but feel concerned when she realized it was a bruise.

Kyrie, for her part, was not inclined to answer the unicorn. It was her first experience with the creatures, and not only was she still trying to wrap her head around it, but she was still afraid that she would be found wanting in their estimation and cause them to do something to her.

"We're just traveling through the country to see the whole continent," Miyuki explained and then went on, "As for why we're here specifically, well Kyrie wanted to show us your herd. We were just admiring everyone, it's not everyday you get to see unicorns."

There was no shame in that, unicorns were incredible beings and it was nice to see them. That was all true.

That is true, the unicorn agreed, pleasure evident in its tone. It turned back towards the girl. They may be the ones.

The girl's eyes flickered towards the three women, and she shook her head, trembling. "No," she disagreed softly with the beautiful creature. "It would be too dangerous."

The unicorn snorted again, and once more ignoring the girl's protest it turned back to the three travelers. You will not be in the area long, I presume?

Shoneah shrugged one shoulder. "A few days is my understanding," she replied.

"And unfortunately we can't stay long in this country, we'll be traveling through it as quickly as possible," Miyuki added, "It's not that safe to stay for long..."

It was a sad truth, but considering they were there talking along side an white elf (she wasn't talking to them), Miyuki considered that a good sign.

"Do you need something of us?" she asked, picking up the unspoken conversation between the unicorn and the girl.

Being a unicorn, and thus a horse-like creature, the unicorn was unable to change facial expression; but it lifted its head in a pleased sort of manner and snorted softly. Without looking at the girl behind it, it replied, I must ask you to do something, though we can offer nothing in return.

Shoneah blinked in surprise and looked at Kyrie. Was this a normal thing?

Kyrie looked just as bewildered as Shoneah felt, and finally she allowed herself to speak. "What is it?"

The unicorn turned back to the girl and stared at her, clearly trying to make a point without having to say anything.

A warm blush rose in the girl's cheeks, and she looked as though she wanted to cry. She clutched her instrument tighter and shook her head. "Too risky," she squeaked, clearly terrified by whatever it was the unicorn wanted to happen.

Miyuki was more confused than bewildered, mainly because she didn't know what was so risky. It clearly had to do with the girl. She eyed the bruise on the white elf's cheek thoughtfully.

"Do you need help?" Miyuki finally asked taking a wild guess.

Though 'help' was a very broad and vague term.

The girl averted her eyes. "No," she replied at the same moment as the unicorn replied, Yes.

The girl chewed her lip anxiously and looked away, allowing the unicorn to speak its piece uninterrupted.

Daenis does not belong with her people, it explained brusquely. She is a kind and gentle soul and does not deserve the fate that will befall her if she is left here.

Shoneah's eyes flickered to the girl, whose cheeks were quite pink by this time. "You want to leave your people?"

The girl lowered her gaze, and after a moment, she nodded. "They are cruel and violent, murderers all," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "How could I want to be a part of it?"

"Like that bruise? If you don't mind me asking," Miyuki started.

She did recall Mailon saying that they didn't really marry for love, that it was about strength. Though she always had a hard time imagining what in the world that could mean. Like, did it mean both sexes beat each other up to prove their better or what?

The girl raised one hand and lightly moved her fingers over the purple spot near her eye, though the action also caused her to wince. "My father wishes me to marry our tribe's weapons master," she said quietly. "I am just thankful that this is the only consequence of my refusal so far."

"Hmmm...."

Miyuki had been under the impression that to marry the weapons master would certainly put her in high regard. It made sense why her father would want to, even though the idea of an arranged marriage was foreign to Miyuki. Her father would probably try to push further.

"This really is a choice for everyone to make, we're not the only ones traveling, and Kyrie, your input first is the most important," Miyuki started.

But she was sure everyone else (as far as she knew) would say yes.

"I mean, I'm all for it, even though I have a funny feeling this means we're going to be the run... the position of weapons master is a high one, which means your family is probably well regarded?" Miyuki guessed.

The girl lowered her gaze once more. "My mother is dead," she murmured unceremoniously, "and my father is chief. He has managed to keep this position since before I was born, which I'm told is a rare thing for our kind."

Kyrie had been quiet, thoughtful, until this point, but now she spoke.

"Miyuki, Shoneah," she said softly, looking between the two, "do you two feel confident speaking on behalf of the rest of the group?"

She spoke in the Common Tongue, trusting that the White Elven girl would not understand her.

Miyuki thought about it, with the exception of Mailon, she was pretty confidante on how the others will feel.

"I can't speak for Mailon, since he's the person I know the least, but everyone else, yes," she spoke back in common tongue.

Everyone else though were either family or very close friends.

Kyrie turned to Shoneah and waited for her answer.

The Gaian elf just shrugged. "Perhaps. I would suggest that it depends on the question," she said simply.

Kyrie nodded. "What do you think they would say in this situation?" She was fairly certain she knew the answer, but she didn't want to make presumptions.

"Easy," Shoneah just about laughed. "They would all say 'the more the merrier'."

Miyuki couldn't help but laugh along with Shoneah, because that was completely true.

Chuckling a bit more before getting herself under control, Miyuki added with a bit more seriousness.

"Even with the danger, they would agree to have her along. Knowing the kind of lifestyle the white elves have and the fact she doesn't want to marry, if there is a way to help, then they'll take it. It's clear from the bruise she's going to be forced and that is going to end in a situation no one would want."

"No one decent anyways," Kyrie glowered. Then she sighed and looked back at the other two. "Then we are agreed, we will take her with us?"

Shoneah nodded without hesitation, though she had to add a caution to her agreement. "If she can wait a few days, though, it may be better - to give Mailon the chance to rest before we're pursued, if they do chase after us."

"If that is at all possible, that would be ideal, it might even give her a chance to grab whatever she owns without people noticing... it'll be a while before we ever get to a friendly town again," Miyuki added.

Unless they skipped the northern territories all together and go back south once they're on the run. Actually that sounded safer, even if that would cut some of their travel plans short. Better safe than sorry.

"Both good points," Kyrie agreed. She turned back to the girl and switched back to the girl's tongue. "We feel that we can speak on behalf of our group," she announced; and the girl looked at her anxiously

Kyrie continued. "We would be glad to have you accompany us for as long as you wish. No one deserves to be forced into a marriage, or treated badly for refusing. But," she added right away so as not to panic or overexcite the girl (since at the moment she had no idea which to expect: the girl clearly needed their help but seemed at the same time terrified of the thought of leaving her home), "there are a few things we'd like you to consider before we do."

The girl looked at the unicorn, who dipped its head once to encourage her to agree, then took a deep breath and looked at Kyrie again. "Yes?"

"We've a member in our group who needs a few days - two or three, perhaps - to recover from an exhausting trek," she told her. "If you come with us, we will certainly be pursued. If you can wait just a few days, then we will be ready to leave immediately rather than having to hide and hope we are not discovered while he recovers."

The girl nodded her head, clearly not at all bothered by the thought of a few more days in her situation.

"This also will give you the opportunity to bring some things with you," Kyrie added with a gentle smile. "Do you come here often?"

"Every day," the girl replied, smiling at last.

Kyrie's smile widened. "Good. Then you can bring a few small things with you each day, and we can bring them back to our tent so that when the time comes for us to leave you won't have to take it all at once. On our part, we can make sure someone is here and waiting for you every day."

Miyuki nodded, even if she, Kyrie or Shoneah couldn't, for sure someone else would be more than happy to do so. It made her think though, she was going to have to make a new room, but there were no materials for a new bed. They were doing to have to do some sort of makeshift bed for that room in the meantime.

She was already thinking about it.
