"It's not a problem at all," Hikaru chuckled, "Technically, I'm a herbalist, someone who heals using medicine. This also means I don't do surgery unlike Ahkshi. When you have you a nation of people where the healing Gift is... pretty much impossible to have, the term healer is to denote people like me. You have an illness, minor wound, or forbid ate something toxic, as a healer I can help. Break a bone, get an arrow through you, get attacked by a wild animal, and Ahkshi is the kind of person you should head to straight away. I would also recommend a physician for people who have illnesses that require long term care that being said."

Which was how he ended up getting introduced as a wandering healer with Ahkshi around (as that was how he was introduced last night).

"If I recall correctly in places where the healing Gift is common, people like me are called an apothecary... in some... some places maybe a chemist, but I have issues with that name as it can also denote people who deal with things that are not meant for consumption. Though some of that is also useful for medicine."

"Judging by your information," Holly commented, "That means you travel outside of the country?"

"When I can get away with it."

"The Fire Elves are generally a bit safer than most races," Mailon told Holly, thinking she likely didn't know. It was her first time in a Fire Elven nation, after all, and there were no Fire Elves among their group. "As a ... physician, healer, apothecary ... whatever term you use, Huron would be safer than anyone else."

He smiled and chuckled softly. "With the possible exception of Kyrie, I think."

"How long have you known Kyrie and her husband?" Takari asked Huron curiously.

"Huh...." Hikaru had to think about that for a bit, "At least two centuries, probably a few decades more than that. It's been a while that's for certain."

He grinned a bit before he took a bite of his food. It was a true bit of news Mailon had told Holly, though Hikaru didn't often travel around in this form. Not when he could blend in or not be seen.

"And I met Kyrie in this town, not on the road," he clarified, "I've never run into Kyrie during my own travels, but then again she has a tendency of going where she's needed which means it's often places I avoid."

Or places where he would be hidden so he could stay out of trouble. Granted, Hikaru had done his own share of people smuggling over the years, but with the exception of his first, never as himself.

"I don't blame you for that," Mailon murmured. "It is a dangerous world out there."

Daenis reached over and put one hand on his. She understood what he meant. After all, it was to save others from people like he had used to be that Kyrie traveled so much, and spent so much time away from her husband.

"Where is your favourite place to travel?" Takari asked Huron curiously. "What attracts you to travel?"

"Well... mainly because there isn't a place I can really settle," Hikaru replied truthfully, "Though I admit, as far as favourite places Caras Galathon is certainly on the top of places to stay, and travel."

Honestly, Hikaru suspected that he could go and prance around as himself over there if he really wanted to. Not that he ever had the guts to try in all these centuries.

"All that time and you can't find anywhere?" Takari was surprised.

"Not everyone has the same requirements for a home," Daenis reminded the other girl softly.

Takari blushed. "Yes, I ... I suppose so ... I suppose though that since hearing about Caras Galadhon and how they never reject anyone, it's become something of a dream for me. For those like Tehlmar and myself, I can't think of why anyone would ... well, why they might not settle there, if no other country would have them."

Turning to Huron, she explained, "My husband is Dark Elven. Caras Galadhon is the only place we can hope to live in peace."

"It's not that there aren't other countries that wouldn't have me," Hikaru replied.

There was a weird half truth, because he could settle down wherever he wanted, if he wanted to spend the rest of his life as a different race. Though that was a good question, why didn't he settle Caras Galadhon?

"It's just... there's something missing..."

It wasn't home, he gave up that, but there wasn't any place where he could closely make it his home he supposed.

"Fair enough," Mailon nodded.

Suddenly Shoneah appeared in the room, sweating in her pants and bustier. Her hair was tied back, which was rare for her, and she hardly seemed to give the others a glance as she made a beeline for the bento boxes.

"Don't mind me," she murmured as she picked up two of them. "Just getting dinner for me and Andarien." She also took two forks and no chopsticks. Grinning at the others, she explained, "He doesn't want to stop working, and I have to make sure he gets his nourishment."

Suddenly she blinked as if seeing Huron for the first time. "Oh. Hello. You must be that other doctor someone was mentioning. Shoneah." She wiped a sweaty hand on her pants and held it out to shake.

"Huron," Hikaru replied as he shook her hand.

So it was still in the evening, he was going to have trouble sleeping later tonight then. Well, he would figure something out later.

She looked like a typical elf, but judging from her clothing, he suspected she may not be.

Shoneah's observational skills were as sharp as ever, and she caught the way he was looking at her. But, not knowing his story, she assumed that - being as he was a Fire Elf in a Fire Elven country - he might not have seen Earth Elves before. But hadn't Jassin and Lashrael been helping a bit with the sick people earlier? She didn't know.

"Sorry for being in such a rush, but Andarien is really keen on these gears he's making," she said hurriedly. She frowned slightly. "I'm not sure why." Then she shook her head, dismissing her confusion. "At any rate, nice to meet you, Huron, and perhaps I'll see you again later."

And she ran off, disappearing as quickly as she had appeared.

Daenis smiled at Huron. "Don't mind her," she murmured. "You get used to it."

"She and Andarien work in a forge," Mailon explained. "He's a blacksmith ... gearsmith ... metalsmith, whatever you want to call him. And she helps him out."

"I was going to question the fact there is a forge in here, but there is also a kitchen, with stoves that don't seem to use wood, so I'm not going to question that," Hikaru chuckled.

Really, he wasn't because it would make his brain hurt trying to pretend whatever is being said went over his head. Then again, the explanation might go over his head. His specialty was not runes.

Holly chuckled, "It is a bit overwhelming at first isn't it?"

"Mind-boggling is the term," Takari murmured with a smile, shaking her head in disbelief. "I have been with you for a few weeks now, and I still can't believe half of what I see. I'm still not certain I've seen everything there is to see, either. And much of what I have seen, I can't understand."

"The funny thing is," Daenis mused, "the magic makes some sort of sense, because you know magic isn't supposed to be logical. But Shiro's ... thing ... that he does his research on, that makes the least sense to me of anything in here."

"And what does this Shiro do?" Huron asked.

He wondered if Shiro was like "Miyuki" because that was another Japanese sounding name to him.

Takari, Daenis and Mailon all looked to Holly for the answer to that question.

"Holly?" Daenis smiled sheepishly. "I think you might be the best one to answer that question."

"Aside from being from the same place as him," Mailon added, "he is your boyfriend."

She knew more about him for both of those reasons, despite the fact that Mailon had known him the longest of the four.

Holly giggled at this, "Shiro is a scientist, he studies everything there is in the natural world. Physics, chemistry, genetics is of interest to him on and off, plants, minerals..."

"In other words, everything and some stuff I have no idea about," Hikaru laughed a bit, "I don't get how someone can study everything, but I guess that's what he does?"

"More or less," Holly admitted.

Hikaru did have a good idea of what Shiro did, though normally scientists only studied a few or one specific thing. It sounded like this guy was everywhere.

"Don't forget he recently took up studying magic," Mailon reminded Holly.

"It's sad when you have to revert to magic to disguise yourselves to pass through a country safely," Takari sighed sadly. Then she smiled. "But for that, I am glad that you found us. I'm sure you can understand what a relief it is to be yourself no matter where you go, and to be accepted for it."

Mailon laughed. He couldn't help it. "Oh, we know," he grinned.

Takari giggled softly. Since joining the group, she had heard a bit about the White Elves' reputation - though she had never heard of White Elves while she'd lived in the south.

"Well, Huron, if you're ready, I can take you to Khetal," she said, pushing herself up from her chair - admittedly with a bit of difficulty. "I'm going to rejoin my husband, so it's on my way."

Hikaru might have said something he would regret when Takari spoke up. Finishing up the last of his meal he nodded.

"Lead the way then," he replied, "And thank you for the meal."

He spoke to Daenis this time as he said that.

"Oh, you are quite welcome," Daenis smiled at Huron. "I hope you stay around for a bit. We're certain to be in town for a while, at least. I believe we promised Kyrie a year or so?"

"Something like that," Mailon nodded. "So yes, do visit us, Huron."

Takari set her now-empty bento box on the counter to be washed and headed towards the door to the foyer. "This way."

"I'll try not to run out of the town too quickly then," Hikaru joked as he followed Takari back out to the foyer.

They were quite nice, and it was rare that he got to talk to White Elves not from Caras Galadhon, though he suspected that was going to be their end location. Unfortunately that was a common thing for White Elves that he could have a good conversation with.

"So where to next?" he asked.

"Well," Takari reasoned, "when I first saw you, you were coming out of Khetal's room, and I can think of only one other place he would be comfortable enough to sleep. No, two," she amended. "Kyrie's, since they are after all siblings, and Kyrie went back with her husband; and Wren's room."

She glanced at him. "Did he happen to mention to you where he would be?"

Takari wasn't worried about it. She only smiled.

"Quite all right," she assured him. "We'll just check them both, then."

Since Kyrie's room was the closer of the two, she began there, pausing to knock at the door. There was no immediate answer, and she tried again; but when there was still no answer, she simply smiled, shook her head and said, "Not here, it seems."

She moved on to Wren's door and knocked again. Again, there was immediate answer; but even as she raised her hand to knock again, the door slid open and Wren stood in the doorway.

"Oh ... hi," she mumbled, rubbing one eye with the back of her hand. She had a severe case of bedhead, her short hair sticking up straight at the back, and sticking out in every other direction everywhere else. "What time is it?"

Otherwise, Hikaru had no sense in time since he entered the tent.

"Dinner?" Surprise showed through her yawn. "No, it's good you woke me, then. I don't want to skew my sense of time too badly. Hold on a second, I'll get Khetal for you, unless you'd like to come in."

She was still dressed from earlier, and Khetal was as well, so she had no qualms in inviting a stranger into her bedroom.

"I'm going to go back to Tehlmar," Takari murmured to Huron. "I shall see you later, I'm sure." With a smile, she headed down to her own room.

"See you later," Hikaru nodded before turning to Wren, "If it's okay for me to be in your room..."

Normally bedrooms were private places, but then again with them living on the go in a tent, maybe it was closer to a dorm room or the like. Where it was your living space and your room all in one.
