Aeris was relieved to hear it. It meant that once they dealt with it, no more new undead would appear. In theory.

"So what do we do with it?" she asked him. "How do we make it stop working? Do we destroy it?"

"The theory behind the orb that it's a spell, interestingly enough and not a curse," Reed explained as he rummaged around in his pack.

He had been given a Dispell scroll by the merchants for this very reason.

"I'm not sure who they got to determine this or how they did," he commented pulling out the scroll, "But it's why they provided this."

It was a simple looking scroll, with a blue ribbon around it with a wax seal that looked like a trident imprinted on it.

"Abjuration magic?" Risa asked recognizing the symbol.

"It's a spell scroll that holds the Dispell spell," Reed explained.

"An' if ye use it an' this ain't the righ' thing, you c'n use it again, like the Iden'ify spell?" Zoltan asked, ever the pessimist.

"It's pretty certain this is the thing causing all of this," Aeris counted him, gently but firmly. She turned back to Reed and nodded. "Go ahead."

"Hey, it's a fair question," Reed smiled at Aeris.

Because the question was no to that question, and Reed knew it, but he was certain that this was the item.

He broke the seal on the scroll and unraveled it, he traced the sigils with a finger and the writing on the scroll began to glow. The light leapt off the page and covered the orb. When the light finally faded the orb seemed, duller somehow, and the party began to notice that it was brighter. The fog had lifted.

"I think that's a good sign, so there shouldn't be anymore undead coming back, but..." he warned, "The ones that are already here will still be here and we won't know until this place is explored."

"I'm fine with that," Aeris nodded. She looked out the window, and she was glad to see the fog had lifted, and it was brighter, but at the same time, she was tired.

"Do you think we could find a relatively safe place and rest up, and tackle the rest of the place tomorrow?" she asked the others. "I'm almost out of spells, and I'm tired. We've already done the main thing we've come here to do, and if we're going to be facing more undead, I'd like to be rested."

"We can head back to camp," Risa reminded to Aeris, "That was the reason for having Allen here was to make sure that the camp is secure. If you'd like, since we still have to do watches tonight, take the last watch so you're sleeping for most of the night."

Risa herself always preferred first or last watch because it allowed a person to be uninterrupted in sleep, but she had done all sorts of shifts before.

Aeris nodded. "Thank you, I would appreciate it."

She hefted her bag. "And I'm going to have to drop of some of this, I think," she grimaced. "It's very heavy."

Zoltan took the lead, watching carefully for any more undead, and they made their way back to the camp. There, Aeris brought her chest out of her bag and put it into the cart, and began to put some of her less-necessary things into the chest.

"And for what's been found so far," she murmured, sitting with her bag between her feet, "there are ... four precious stones ..."

She pulled the stones out and laid them on the ground in front of her.

"... for us to split, and ..."

She did the math in her head.

"340 cp each, 200 sp each, and 16 gp each."

She counted it all out carefully, passing it out to everyone, including Allen.

"Split the gems among the four of you, I'm fine with that and I think they will be of equal value," Allen suggested to Aeris.

He had after all come on this to be support for Risa, and he had a regular job. Extra coin was always good, but he didn't need to trouble them with dividing physical goods with him.

"I will need to visit the merchant's guild after this," Risa commented, "And it would be recommended that we all do really..."

The amount of coin from this while useful would need to be set aside in coffers to be honest. There was no way they would always carry around this much coin.

"We definitely will," Aeris grimaced. "Especially if what profit we make from what we sell is how we're being paid for this two-month mission."

It was a long time to be away, and they would have missed out on opportunities for other requests, so they needed to make as much as they could.

The next day saw the party pouring over Risa's make shift map, she had noted out all the homes she could see, and with the fog lifted she was pretty sure she had them all. She also had made a rough drawing of what the inside of the manor and the fountain since it was the only landmark there.

"So, how do we want to do this today?" Risa asked.

They were assuming they wouldn't have a repeat of yesterday since they had cleared out the skeletons and the zombies in the middle of town. However, who knew what they would find in some of the homes?

"We might as well start at the first building and complete the circle from there," Aeris suggested. "I think, from the glimpse I caught of it yesterday, it looked barricaded, but I'm sure we can get in somehow."

Zoltan nodded, looking at the map and then looking over it at the town before them. "Aye, it's a good plan," he agreed. "Le's go."

They started forward. Having learned the day before, they walked with their weapons in hand.

Now that the fog was gone they can a clear view of all the buildings, it was no wonder why this place was sometimes called a 'town'. There were at least enough buildings to be home to a few families even if most of the buildings were too small to be considered for a family.

"So.. the one to the west then?" Risa asked the moment they entered the area.

Which was the building that Aeris had suspected was barricaded (that is probably from the inside).

"We'll probably have to break the door down."

"Goo' think I've got my axe," Zoltan grinned, gripping it tightly and heading towards the door.

Aeris prepared her crossbow. "I'll watch our backs while you work," she offered quietly.

Zoltan approached the door and raised his greataxe high above his head. With a grunt, he heaved it into the door. The door splintered, splitting slightly open, but not enough for anyone to get inside. It was a sturdy door, barricaded from behind, and that made it a little challenging.

He yanked his axe back and tried again, hitting the same spot. The door splintered further, cracking entirely in half, and the boards behind it gave way as they had nothing else to hold up. Still using his axe, he pulled the bits of wood out of the way to clear the doorway for everyone.

"Anyone care to lead the way inside?" he asked, looking at the others.

"I'll go," Risa replied, though she had to light a torch because whoever was here had also boarded up the only window as well. Allowing very little light to enter for those without darkvision.

Inside the home was a single bed and some very basic furniture. Scattered around the single room home were sheets of paper full of charcoal drawings, a few canvas, most of them with paintings on it or in the middle of the work.

In the far north-western corner, curled up on a bed was a body of a person, clutching a crossbow and bolts scattered on the bed around them. Risa put a hand on the hilt of her sword expecting the person to rise, but they never did, it seems they had managed to dodge whatever created the zombies and skeletons but not death.

Aeris was still watching for surprise attacks from undead outside.

"What do you see?" she asked over her shoulder.

Zoltan entered the building, passing by Risa, since she had stopped in the doorway.

"Dead body," he called back, moving to check it out. He didn't see anything more than Risa, but he did collect the crossbow and bolts.

Aeris knew that there had to be more than simply a corpse, so she came into the building, too, to check it out. Using the light from Risa's torch, she looked more carefully.

Painting supplies and an incomplete painting told her that this person was a talented artist. The painting was of a tall man whose face was shadowed by a dark hood. He was wearing black scale mail, and despite the shadowy features, there were pale wisps of blond hair sticking out from under the cowl. He was smiling, a very wicked-looking smile, and he was holding in one hand the orb they had found the day before.

"I wonder if that's the lord of the town," she murmured, moving on.

Under the bed, she found a sack of coins containing 35 cp, 56 sp, 3 gp and a carved pair of bone dice. When she inspected the body further, she found a metal flask.

"A dead body, eh?" she teased Zoltan with a smile as she tucked it all into her bag.

Zoltan held up the fistful of bolts. "I was goin' te give these te ye," he teased her right back.

Reed carefully took a step in and Risa guarded the door carefully. He looked around briefly since Zoltan and Aeris had already gone over the place.

"How goes the searching?" Reed inquired, "Looks like this poor person was in a bad spot."

He wondered though why they had boarded themselves up instead of run, their home was closest to the exit, or maybe he never got a chance to get out when the undead came.

Aeris nodded, looking at the body. "Perhaps he was caught unawares," she suggested. "And by the time he realized anything was happening, it was too late to get out."

Or maybe he had someone or something he didn't want to leave.

"I think we've seen about all there is to see in here," she added, turning away from the corpse. "Some coin, some dice, a flask ..."

"Some bolts," Zoltan added, handing them to Aeris. She tucked them into her bag, since her quiver was nearly full.

Risa took out the map from one of her pockets as she needed quick access to it.

"Guess since we said we would go and circle around that means the building next to it in the west," she commented. She backed up a bit and was able to see the edge of the next home, "Yes, I think that one would be next then.

Aeris and Zoltan left the home and headed towards the next home. While Zoltan watched around for any approaching undead, she opened the door and looked inside.

There were no creatures in the building, but she did see a bed, a night stand with a drawer and a tiny chest on top, and to one side, a table and chair.

There was a letter on the table, next to a dried out inkwell and quill. She skimmed the letter. The writer, whoever he or she was, indicated how lucky they were to be hired as a guard by the Glasstone family, and that they hoped the coin they were sending back would help with expenses.

She tried the tiny chest. It opened easily, and inside she found more coins: 25 sp, 61 cp, 19 ep. She collected it and put it into her bag. Next, she tried the drawer. Inside was only a whetstone, and knowing how many in the group had bladed weapons, she collected that as well.

She explained what she had found to the group.

"Shoul' we try the next place, then?" Zoltan suggested, indicating the next building over.

"Might as well, so far so good," Reed commented.

At the very least the undead they had dealt with yesterday hadn't come back so that was a good sign.

Risa nodded, "We should, as long as we're able. Hopefully we'll get to the manor again."

She assumed the manor would take the longest depending on what was there.

They made their way to the next building, and again, Aeris opened the door and looked inside.

Two corpses were the first things to catch her eye. One was draped over a chair, the other was propped against a wall. Like the previous house, there was a bed and a night stand.

As before, she stepped inside to investigate further, but as she did so, one of the corpses began to move.

"They're alive!" she called over her shoulder at the others, who were still outside.

Zoltan moved quickly, rushing into the room. He raised his greataxe high and brought it down on the closer of the two corpses, cleaving it neatly in half.

Aeris swung with her shortsword at the other corpse, but it wasn't until her blade bounced off of it that she realized that it was wearing armor - and carrying a weapon.

"Careful, this one's armed and armoured!" she warned the others.

Reed and Risa hurried over they had been making their way when Aeris had just gone right on inside. So they were too far away and wouldn't be able to get there quickly enough to help the other members of their party.

The zombie lifts up it's sword clumsy, and brings it down to try and strike Aeris. However it was slow and clunky and misses Aeris by quite a bit.

Zoltan rushed to Aeris' side, once again raising his greatsword and bringing it down with all his might. One of the zombie's arms fell to the ground, but unlike the other one, this one was still moving.

Aeris tried again to hit the zombie before her, but again her shortsword bounced off its armor.

Risa drew her long sword as she ran into the building and thrust it at the zombie. It hit the wall behind the zombie and bury itself in. She yanked at it in order to get the blade out. Meanwhile Reed, realizing he wouldn't be able to reach the creature with everyone else surrounding it, pointed to it and said.

"You're just pathetic falling to pieces like that."

The zombie jerked and shuddered before falling back into the wall as if it had been hit. It began to slide down the wall but jerked again and got back up.

Zoltan attacked it again, slamming his greataxe into its chest and slamming it back into the wall. With a jerk, the zombie stood up again, not at all bothered by the blow to its chest.

Aeris gave up on the shortsword, as she wasn't having any luck with it, and with a word of power and a thrust of her hand, she attacked it with a magic missile. Four darts struck the creature, one after the other, slamming a hole into its chest. At last, the magic holding the zombie together fell away, and the corpse dissolved into a gooey mess.

"Oh, ew," Aeris grimaced, stepping back. "That one just didn't want to go down."

With the immediate threat over, she looked around the room again. On the nightstand was a tiny carved box, and when she opened it, she saw a simple gold ring with the words "Forever Loved" engraved in it. It looked like a wedding ring.

She tucked it into her bag and continued searching. As she ran her fingers along the mattress, she found a small hole. Digging around inside, she pulled out 55 gp, 24 sp, and 29 cp. She added it to her coin pouch to split with the others later.

"I think we're done here," she said, looking around at the others. "Onwards?"
