"Onwards," Risa agreed and this time began to move with Reed towards the next home so they wouldn't be left behind this time.

The next home was much larger, but Risa had seen that a wall had crumbled at the far wall away from the door, so they might be able to get in through the wall instead of the door if they had to.

Aeris and Zoltan headed to the next building and peered into the open hole in the wall. They could see a loom along the north wall, but besides that, there were only shadows. They could hear something further inside, but as that didn't bode well, they continued along the outside wall towards the main door.

"Be ready, there's something in there," Aeris cautioned the others, reaching for the door.

She opened the door and looked inside. Sunlight from the southern window illuminated a bed, which had been pushed up against it, as well as a long-broken table and chairs. Against the far wall were propped up two bodies that seemed to be a serving-girl and a soldier. They seemed to be sitting just a little too well for Aeris.

"Two here, and I think we'd all better get in here," she said over her shoulder, taking a step inside and moving over to make space.

Zoltan gripped his greataxe in both hands and stepped inside, approaching the corpses closely.

Risa and Reed entered right afterwards, both of them with their hands on the hilts of their swords. Even though this room was bigger than ones they've been in so far, Risa was hesitant to get out her arrows.

"More bodies..." she murmured thoughtfully.

Then, as she said this, the bodies began to move, and get up from where they were and slowly shamble forward, but since the group was expecting it, they (the zombies) didn't get far.

Aeris didn't want to give the zombies too much chance to hurt anyone, so she right away used her Ice Knife to target the area between the two. She thrust her hand forward and used a word of power to cast the spell. The icy blade hit the wall between the two zombies, and because of the angle, the soldier zombie was not hit by the frigid shards. The serving-girl zombie however took a side-shower of ice.

Zoltan stepped forward, right up to the soldier zombie, and brought his greataxe down on it. It hit it in the ribs, causing it to stagger.

Risa went over to the serving girl zombie and raised her long sword, bringing it down on the person. There was a crack as the sword hit the collar bone and went through. Pulling the sword back out, Risa stared down the zombie in question.

The zombie girl tried to hit Risa back but only managed to frail her arms harmlessly at Risa, and it did no damage.

The soldier on the other hand raised his sword up and brought it down on Zoltan's shoulder. The sword made the creature more dangerous than the serving girl.

Reed hurried over to Zoltan to stab the soldier but missed the zombie completely.

Aeris clapped her palms together and whispered an incantation, and a bonfire burst into existence in the very space where the soldier zombie was located. The zombie was still moving, slower now that it was burned, and it looked pretty well burned at that.

Zoltan grunted with pain as the zombie's sword dug into his flesh, and his vision turned red as he filled with rage. With a roar, he raised his greataxe again, and brought it down into the soldier's chest. With a crash and a bang, the zombie fell to the ground, arms, armor and all - but just as Zoltan thought it was finished, it stirred and rose once again to its feet, albeit slowly and with difficulty.

Risa stabbed at the zombie again and this time it stumbled and fell over. The goo that was the zombie's insides spilling to the floor. She backed up a bit, a bit disgusted by the whole thing.

The zombie moved to body slam Reed, but stumbled as it did so and didn't manage to get enough force to properly slam at the bard. In turn the bard tried to stab the zombie, but only managed to have the rapier slid off of the damaged scale mail. The solider didn't move out of the way, it didn't seemed bother by the fact it was in a bonfire. It jerked for a moment as if it was going to collapse and then kept on like nothing had happened.

Aeris was losing patience, and she summoned forth magical darts, homing in on the last remaining zombie. One, two, three darts struck the undead creature, until at last the magic that held it together was vanquished, and it fell to the ground, truly, finally dead.

She let out a sigh of relief.

Zoltan however was not done with the soldier.

"YOU" he shouted raising his axe high, "STUPID", he began to swing down at the corpse, "UNDEAD" his greataxe met with the corpse's body and armor, "BUGGERS!"

His greataxe went through the body, sending half-rotted body mush flying, and into the floor, leaving a hole. The fire was still burning, as was the body now, and as he realized this, his rage cooled slightly, and he let out a sigh.

"Bloody livin' corpses," he growled, hefting his axe in his hands again.

It was Risa who heard the very, very soft rustling coming from the other room. She frowned, unsure what it was but moved away from that entrance.

"Careful, I hear something," Risa commented, but the comment came too late.

"Hear what?" Reed asked.

Because she was the only one who heard it, then without warning something skittered out of the room and across the floor making a beeline for Zoltan before whatever the black thing was pounced on him. In the light, the creature hissed, and it looked like a woman with long black hair that covered her face, and her nails were unnaturally long, more like claws than nails. She knocked the dwarf prone and clawed at him. However it seemed to swing air instead and the shape nail/claws missed him widely.

Aeris's adrenaline was still pumping from the fight that had just barely ended, and without hesitation, she again cast Magic Missile, this time at the black figure.

Zoltan pushed himself to his feet, red haze once again overtaking his vision, and he honed in on the woman-like creature who had knocked him down. He raised his greataxe and brought it down with a mighty yell. The creature fell to the ground, bleeding black ooze in places, snarling - but she wasn't directing her snarling at anyone in the room, but towards the floor.

"What's she doing?" Aeris called to the others, moving slightly closer.

"I don't know-" Risa spoke up and then without warning the woman let out an inhuman, loud, high pitched shriek that everyone could feel into their core.

It grated into the nerves and Risa bent over and covered her ears. She felt fear like never before and couldn't bring herself to move or look at the creature. She couldn't even speak or bring herself to speak.

The creature once more tried to swipe at Zoltan and once more hit nothing but air as it didn't reach far enough to do so.

Reed cursed and struck at it with his rapier only for the creature to duck, it was already kind of hard because it was so low to the ground.

Aeris took the briefest of moments to gather her strength, and then she thrust her hand forward and shouted a word of power to summon another ice knife, aiming it for the woman.

The creature was too low to the ground, and the knife shattered on the stone next to her, showering the creature, Zoltan and Reed all with shards of ice.

The creature collapsed to the ground with ice shard sticking out of her. Zoltan, who, like Risa, had been stunned with fear, was also bleeding from the shards sticking out of his legs. But as soon as the creature was dead, he let out a gasp, as if he had been struggling for air and was suddenly now able to get it.

"Wha'," he gasped, "was tha'?!"

"Not a clue," Reed spoke up now that his heart was starting to slow down.

That had given him a bad fright, though he wasn't affected the way Risa and Zoltan were.

Risa who was shaking a bit still lowered her hands from her ears and stared at the creature. It was a woman, or had been a woman, but she also was at a lost of what the creature was.

"It came from that room," Risa pointed over to the room they had bypassed to get into the house, "So maybe that is what we had noticed earlier?"

She hoped so at least.

"Better check," Aeris murmured, readying her daggers in her hands so that she hopefully would not be taken by surprise. She dropped the bonfire spell she had cast, and the flames disappeared.

She carefully headed towards the door to the next room.

"I'll go first," Zoltan offered, gripping his greataxe again. "I can see in the dark."

He stepped up to the doorway and peered inside carefully.

Because of the hole in the wall, there was enough light entering the room that most of the room was decently lit and the places that weren't Zoltan could see well with his darkvision. There was a large loom against the north wall with a fraying, incomplete and discoloured cloth. There was a box open with other tools, suggesting it was once a weaver's tool kit. There was a table beside the loom with something wrapped in a rough undyed cloth and against the west wall where the light would not reach was a wooden chest with carvings of ivy and hearts on it, it was about five foot long and was as high as a foot stool.

"Looks clear," Zoltan grunted, beckoning for the others to follow him into the room.

He did keep his greataxe handy, just in case.

He walked towards the table, towards the object that was wrapped in undyed cloth, set his greataxe down, picked up the object and began to unwrap it.

Aeris, when she arrived, stayed close to him, as she couldn't see the chest in the darkness.

Risa and Reed followed, but they stayed in the other room as it was clear the next room wasn't really that big.

When Zoltan unwrapped the undyed cloth, he found a bolt of cloth that was a golden wheat colour, made of a much finer wool than the cloth used to wrap it. Thanks to the wrapping the cloth was in relatively good condition. The top layer was slightly damaged due to being kept out in moisture, but anything under that first layer would be fine. Clearly it was created to mimic the colour of gold.

"That's beautiful," Aeris murmured appreciatively, running a finger over the cloth.

Zoltan shrugged and folded it back in the cloth. "I'm sure we coul' ge' some gold fer it," he said, tucking it into his bag. "I'd li' te know wha's in tha' ches' there."

He moved around Aeris and headed towards the chest he had seen and opened it up.

It was pretty heavy, made of good wood. Inside, he could see that it was designed to be airtight. There was something else inside also wrapped in undyed cloth, so well wrapped that it wasn't exposed. On top of that, there was a small pouch. He opened it up and counted 28 cp, 59 sp, and 15 gp, which he added to his own pouch. Then he picked up the wrapped object and opened it to find a bolt of white silk and a bolt of transparent white cloth.

"Mi' ge' some coin fer thet," he shrugged, rewrapping it and tucking it into his bag too.

"Don't forget that anything we find that will become a burden to carry we can drop off at the cart," Risa commented, "If we're going to do a second run. That being said, are you all to go for another house?"

They had been at it for a while, even though this was maybe their only second or third encounter. Still, it was good to check with everyone to see where they were at.

"What did you find?" Reed called over since he was not at the door way.

"Bits o' cloth," Zoltan called back to Reed. Then, looking to Risa, he added, "I coul' use a rest, truth be tol'. Bu' I'd be fine with a shor' rest, jes' a half hour or so."

"Do we feel safe here?" Aeris asked the others, looking around.

Risa looked around and considered the question, she wasn't too bothered by the thought of resting here, but she was aware this probably wasn't the safest place.

"I'm probably not fond of the idea of being in a place that has two points of entry," Risa admitted, "One of the more intact homes would be a better place."

Which meant either backtrack or take a risk and hope the next place didn't have anything in it.

Zoltan nodded, then shrugged. "We coul' always block the other door we came in, an' just have this one entry te watch."

Aeris looked back into the other room. "There is a bed and table we could use," she suggested.

"That should do," Risa agreed with the plan, "Let's do that then."

It would save them a trip and then they could exit out of the hole in the wall in the other room.

Risa moved over to the large bed and considered it, it looked like it had been meant for two people and despite the wear from the elements, probably had been new before all this broke out.

"Zoltan, could we do this together?" she asked.

Zoltan moved to help Risa, and the two of them together managed to drag the bed over to the door, blocking it closed.

Once it was moved, they sat down in the room, resting.

Reed didn't bother to unhook his lute, instead he sang softly letting the magic of his song wash over his companions. He was glad for the rest, it was only when it was mentioned they could rest did he realize he was tired from the trip they had so far.

Risa closed her eyes for a moment and just let herself rest.
