Miyuki nodded as she set down her bag and began to unpack the tent.

It actually didn't take that long and the nice thing about having one tent was that it took less time to set up. Whereas they would normally wait for everyone to finish setting up their tents, which could take a while.

By the time she was finished, she still had time to help with the fire, and by the time the fire was set up everyone was settled.

By the time the tent was up and the fire started, Shoneah had also returned with a few birds in her hand.

"There's bigger game out there," she said apologetically as she brought the birds towards the fire, "but they'll take some time to track."

Kyrie looked around at everyone. "Well, we've been keeping up a steady pace for a few weeks now," she said slowly. "Does anyone object to staying here a few days and replenishing our food supplies?"

"I don't mind," Lin replied, "We're not in a full hurry to get anywhere."

And they already made good time as it was.

Miyuki nodded, "It's fine with me if we stayed a few days. It'll be a good rest."

Eron though was far more practical about it.

"It'll take time to resupply, it can't be helped anyways," he added.

Kyrie smiled. "You're all so practical. It's nice to travel with people like that."

Daeron laughed. "Now you sound like me," he grinned at her. "I used to complain about traveling companions, up until I started going with this lot."

"You used to drive us crazy with your complaints," Earendil sighed, rolling his eyes.

Lin sniggered at that, because she had been a child (or a surprise) back when she heard Daeron's first complaints.

"You made it sound like you were cursed," Lin admitted to Dareon.

After all no one else had so many complaints about traveling partners as Dareon had.

"I was!" Daeron laughed heartily.

Kyrie grinned at him. "Let me guess. You ended up traveling with people who said they could fight and were seasoned travelers, but it ended up that they were useless and you had to carry the weight of both of you."

Daeron chuckled again. "Add to that the stupidity of people who wanted to come with me solely for the privilege of traveling with a prince, and you've got it exactly."

"Prince?" Shoneah spoke up in surprise from where she was already busy, plucking the birds with Wren and Lancaeriel.

Miyuki nodded at this from where she was prepping the veggies. The sooner everything was done, the sooner the cooking could begin once the birds were done being prepared.

"Yea, I heard it's pretty common for people to just want to stick around because of titles," she murmured.

Lin chuckled and explained, "It's not something we talk about unless we need to make an impression, but yes. Dareon is a prince, as is Earendil, and Wren is a princess."

"I've seen it but thankfully it doesn't affect me," Kyrie grinned. "I'm grateful to call Mari my friend, but I'm equally thankful that it has nothing to do with her rank."

She was queen now, but she hadn't treated anyone any differently than she had when she'd been a princess in hiding.

Earendil grinned at Lin. "You make it sound as if you're not part of that. To be fair, Lancaeriel, Cael and Kyrie are really the only ones in our group that aren't of royal blood."

Even Shiro and Kaito, being Elnara's children, were technically members of the royal family, and Amir as well by his adoption.

Shoneah smiled bemusedly. "And yet you're so down-to-earth," she mused. "That's actually nice and refreshing."

Lin chuckled at this, "Yes well... it's not something I think about all that much."

She never grew up calling Earendil by his title, and really hadn't given much thought to it when she married him. It was just one of those things that never came up until it had to.

"Is it that refreshing?" Miyuki asked Shoneah.

"Yes," Shoneah smiled at Miyuki. "Often those in power tend to think themselves above others, better than them. Back in Gaia, there is a saying: 'Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely'. And it's true. As much as I hate to admit it, even my own tribe's leader has let it go to his head. So to meet people as kind as all of you and to learn that you also are in positions of power in your own land is wonderful."

Then she blushed faintly. "Not that it isn't wonderful, regardless," she added, realizing her words could have implied that.

"It's okay, we know what you meant," Miyuki told Shoneah cheerfully.

She supposed that was true, after all wasn't that the case with the General? Granted those like the General could do so because they didn't care about anyone else. Those that did care about their people and country tended to be very busy. So much so that Miyuki thought she was glad she didn't have such a job.

The conversation continued in the same light manner while everyone set about doing what needed to be done. It took a while, but before night fell, Wren, Lancaeriel and Miyuki had made a good meal of fresh fowl for everyone, and Wren had used some of their stores to whip up some peach cobbler for dessert, though it took a while longer to prepare.

After the meal, when people were preparing to head into the tent for the night, Mailon suddenly paused, and then he looked towards the forest, stepping away from the tent. Kyrie, being ever vigilant of his actions, was the first to notice, but she wanted to observe him quietly before speaking to him, try to see what he was up to.

Lin had also noticed Mailon's moves, though she was curious as to why he was suddenly heading towards the forest. She didn't think he was up to something, but did find the sudden change in course a bit odd. Was there something in the forest?

She couldn't see anything, or hear anything...

Soon, others also noticed Mailon's odd behaviour, and they strained to see or hear whatever it was that had caught his attention.

Andarien of course had no idea what was going on. "He-"

"Sh!" Mailon shushed him harshly, waving his hand at him to be quiet.

Andarien looked around, confused. Aside from the crackling of their dying fire, he couldn't hear a thing. "I don-"

"Sh!" Mailon shushed him again, harsher this time.

Slowly, Kyrie unslung her bow and nocked an arrow, her entire body tense.

Earendil looked at Lin, confused. He didn't hear anything either, but he didn't expect to; he was afraid that he was missing something that the others were hearing.

Lin signed to Earendil that Mailon had heard something. Though she wasn't sure if Kyrie heard it, but it was clear that she was getting ready to attack. Though she couldn't hear a thing beyond the crackling of the fire, but she had human hearing so that was to be expected.

Miyuki's ears twitched as she tried to pick up whatever sound it was that got Mailon's attention.

But it wasn't a noise that had gotten Mailon's attention, but rather the lack of it; and Kyrie had quickly realized the same thing, which was why she had prepared her bow.

Andarien's heart was racing, and he pulled all four of his Pokeballs from his pocket, preparing to release his Pokemon. Earendil slowly drew his sword, a finger on either side of the blade to keep the metal from ringing as it slid free of its sheath.

Most of the others unfortunately were already in the tent, unaware of what was happening outside.

Miyuki fingered the pokeballs she had attached to a belt she wore around her waist. Her hand brushed against the scroll she kept tucked there in case of emergencies. She already had her staff in hand since she carried it around with her always when the traveled.

Lin also went for her sword, not completely sure of what to expect.

Suddenly to the south there was the sound of something snapping - a branch, a tree, something large and strong - and Mailon whirled to face that direction. Then a large shadow rose above the trees, shapeless, blocking out part of the sky.

"Dragon," the White Elf hissed between his teeth. Then, just as quietly, he added, "Nobody move ... perhaps it will ignore us ..."

Andarien went cold. He recalled his last encounter with a wild dragon. Those ones on Amon Darthir had been quite small compared to this one, though ...

Earendil could tell from the reactions of others that Mailon had spoken, but he couldn't hear it, and he turned to Lin, frustrated.

Lin used a free hand to sign the word dragon to her husband since it would be unwise to talk. Then put a finger to her lips because if they were quiet enough, maybe, just maybe it would ignore them.

Miyuki grimace as her hand moved from her pokeballs to her scroll. Dragons were the reason why she sought out to improve this rune array, but she had always hoped to never have to run into an unfriendly dragon again.

The shadow remained where it was for several long moments, and during that time no one moved. They hardly dared even breathe. Then, slowly, it sank into the trees and vanished, and everything went silent once more.

Andarien let out his breath and relaxed slightly, his heart rate picking up again, and he turned back to the others.

"Well that was-"

A screeching roar cut him off, and the ground seemed to shake with the noise of it. This time Earendil didn't have to ask Lin what was going on: sheathing his sword again, he reached for his bow and prepared it as quickly as he was able. There was a burst of fire in the forest, difficult to see through the trees between the travelers and it, and then the shadowy shape took to the air. Black smoke billowed up towards it from below, blocking any details, and the only thing that was clear was that it was big and that it was angry.

"You fool!" Mailon cried angrily at Andarien over the roaring of the dragon. That was all the attention he could spare, though, as he turned his focus to the dragon itself.

Miyuki tossed out her pokeballs. She was thinking about the Pokemons' range as the creature was already in the sky.

"Yasu, go into the tent and warn the others of the dragon, to get Lancaeriel and Cael first," she told her Pokemon firmly.

Yasu nodded and hurried into the tent, Miyuki had done this because out of the three Pokemon, Yasu would have the shortest range, while based on the kind of attacks, Suki had the longest range.

Shoneah was already on her way out of the tent, though. She'd heard the dragon's roar, and she recognized the sound from back home. She had her bow in one hand, a pistol in the other, ready to shoot.

Andarien meanwhile was letting his Pokemon out, though he was shaking and fumbling for the buttons. They appeared one at a time, right after each other, and without being told, they made a wall in front of Andarien.

"Don't waste arrows on its body," Kyrie called to everyone, her eyes on the dragon. "Go for the eyes, mouth and throat! His scales will just stop everything else!"

Miyuki nodded at this and after a second of thought she gave her orders.

"Ai, use any long range psychic attacks as you can, if you're going to toss rocks at it, go for the eyes. Suki, use Fairy Wind, let's see if you can knock it out from the sky. Move when everyone else does."

It was a danger up there since it had higher ground and could lobby fireballs at them.

The dragon was circling them from out of bow range, clearly checking them out. Without warning, it dove at them, its roar shaking the ground once more.

Kyrie waited until it was in range, and then she pulled her bow back and fired at it. A split second afterwards, it began to breathe fire down on them. Andarien scrambled out of the way, but Kyrie stood fast, and Ponydash took the opportunity to race towards the dragon, its body bursting into flame as it did so.

Suki lunged forward without fear of the fire. Pink sparkles seemed to surround her as she summoned an unnatural wind. Unnatural because there had been no wind a moment before and instead of feeding the fire, it seemed to cut through it leaving a trail of pink sparkles in it's wake as it sped towards the dragon.

All the while Ai pulled up a barrier to protect herself and her owner.
