"Ah... I haven't asked them yet," Holly replied once she wrote down everyone's request, "I'll go do that now."

Once she had written down everyone's request, she got up from her seat.

"This is going to be fun," Holly grinned, "And a good excuse to measure everyone."

This would also allow her to design clothes for everyone as well. Something she had been wanting to do for a while.

Daenis and Mailon had left their room but rather than simply lounging around the living room as they usually did (as boring as that got when others weren't around) they had decided to go for a walk. It was far too hot outside , so they had gone where Daenis was most comfortable: the cold gardens. They had gone into the one with the dry cold, and it was somewhere just below the freezing point in there.

Ira was running around them, freezing flowers with ice and kicking up snow and just having fun. Daenis was laughing at his antics, and ended up laughing even harder when Ira and Mailon got into a snowball fight.

Holly, wouldn't gather measurements until later, because she didn't have her measuring tape with her. Instead, she searched the tent for the couple. Since she didn't see them in their room, she figured they might be in one of the gardens. She tried for the coldest first, knowing that Daenis would prefer that.

She wasn't sure of Daenis threshold tolerance to heat, but figured going from coldest to hottest would be the best way to find them.

Wet cold was colder than dry cold, even though the temperatures were the same, and though dry cold was often enough more comfortable, wet cold made for better snowballs, so it was in the wet and cold garden that Daenis and Mailon were goofing off.

When Holly entered the garden, Daenis was about to throw a snowball of her own, but she heard the door behind her, and rather than throw the snowball, she held it in her hand and turned to see who it was.

"Oh! Holly!" she exclaimed brightly. "I do not think I have seen you in here before. What brings you here?"

"I was actually looking for the two of you," Holly admitted, "I'm making bathing suits for everyone, so they can go swimming. I wanted to know if either of you were interested."

The water could be quite cold, and Holly figured, there was a chance that Daenis might want to swim.

"Swimming?" Daenis repeated curiously. "Is that where everyone else is?"

Over Holly's shoulder, she saw a snowball from Ira hit Mailon square in the face and she couldn't help but giggle. Mailon in turn used his gift to shower the Glaceon with ice pellets, and Daenis smiled and ushered Holly gently to the side so that they wouldn't be caught in the cross-fire.

Holly nodded a bit before pausing, "Well... most of the group is just resting on the beach, but Andarien was learning how to swim the last I checked. Most are interested in taking a swim eventually, except for maybe Shiro and Kaito."

They really were like cats, but to be fair, Holly had grown up on an island. Swimming was a necessary skill.

"I have never gone swimming before," Daenis admitted. "It might be interesting to learn."

Turning to look at her husband again, she smiled widely. "Mailon swims, though I am not sure how well or how often. I have to say, though, I have not heard of clothes that are used specifically for swimming." She turned back to Holly. "Are they necessary or is it just for fun that everyone is getting some clothes?"

"It's really just fun," Holly admitted, "In Gaia, yes, normally you'd have bathing clothes, but really... you could just go in your underwear or less if you were so minded. I haven't made bathing clothes in a long time because often the amount of cloth, or lack there of is kind of scandalous where I was."

Though it was clear it wasn't scandalous wherever Daenis came from.

Without realizing she was doing so, Daenis voiced Holly's observation.

Smiling, she murmured, "Not so in Jielam. I know Mailon wears more, though I am still not certain whether it is out of respect to our companions or because he adapted during his travels, but I find that when I try to wear more than I am now, I feel too warm, and end up dizzy."

Her smile turned rueful. "Even before I was pregnant, I could not tolerate the heat, but it seems to only be getting worse."

"It doesn't help that right now outside is hot and humid, the humidity makes the heat worse," Holly admitted, "But with us being near water it should make it much more tolerable."

At least she hoped so, while Holly wasn't so bad off, she admitted it would be nice to feel a bit of coolness.

"Hopefully, while I did live on a tropical island, while it was hot, I don't think it was that humid."

Daenis smiled again.

"Then perhaps I shall venture out of doors," she murmured. She looked at Holly again. "What do those bathing suits of yours look like? If you do not already have too many to make, perhaps I might try one. And Mailon ..." She hesitated. "I am not sure what he wears when he swims."

She looked up to see where he was and if he was still having a snowball fight with Ira, but it seemed that it was over. He had Ira on his shoulder now and was making his way over towards the two women.

"It won't be too much, they're pretty simple and depending on the design, doesn't have a lot of fabric," Holly held up her sketch book.

She opened it up to the last page because she figured that Daenis would be more comfortable in something that had less fabric. Especially when heat was involved.

"See? These actually do have a bit more fabric than what you're use to, but I could also just make a bathing suit version of what you're wearing now. Back home we call it a bikini. I just figured outside of Kyrie, no one was going to want a bikini, it's a bit outside everyone else's comfort zone."

Daenis took a moment to look over the various designs on the page, and before she had looked at them all, Mailon was at her side.

"Hello, Holly," he greeted the neko warmly, though his eyes were drawn immediately to the notebook. "What is this?"

Ira took the opportunity to crawl from Mailon's shoulder to his mistress' and curled up around her neck.

"Bathing suits," Holly explained, "Clothes to swim in, since we're near water. Back in Gaia, we would wear clothes for swimming. I'm not sure what it's like here and back in the country we were in... well... showing that much skin would be unthinkable."

She was sure Mailon would be comfortable in just a pair of swimming trunks.

"It's the same in pretty much every country here," Mailon nodded in agreement. "Both for men and for women. There are a few areas with exceptions, such as the White Elves or Water Elves, and there are some people who are exceptions as well, like Kyrie. But for the most part, it is more than unthinkable, it's simply unacceptable."

"What do you wear to swim?" Daenis asked him, turning to look at him. "I have never seen you swim, I believe ..."

Mailon smiled at his wife. "Usually just whatever clothes I have on, unless it would be too heavy. But I don't swim for pleasure, like many people."

Daenis' eyes were serious as she looked at him. "Holly has told me that the others are outside and most of them either are swimming or were or will swim. I have to admit I do not know how to swim, but if it helps to dispel the heat outside then I thought that perhaps I would try it."

Surprise registered in Mailon's eyes, but he grinned widely. "Then I would be happy to teach you." Turning his attention back to Holly's designs, he added, "Which are you considering?"

"I haven not actually chosen yet," Daenis admitted, "but this one seems nice."

She pointed at a two piece that covered about the same as what she usually wore.

Holly nodded, not that surprised. Taking out the pen that Shiro had gave her, she marked it down in the book.

"It's a lot more fun to design female suits... most men are just going to have swimming trunks."

Because it was the only thing that looked good.

"Swimming ... trunks?" Daenis asked hesitantly, confused by the term. The only trunks she had ever heard of were tree trunks, and that didn't sound as if it was appropriate in this context.

Mailon was no help this time. He didn't understand what Holly meant by it either.

Holly giggled, "I don't know why they're called that."

She flipped through a few pages and showed the couple what she meant by swimming trunks.

"Here, it's pretty simple, again covering only what is needed."

Mailon agreed, it did look like a simple design, but really that was all that was necessary.

"Are you going to dye them at all before waterproofing them?" he asked her curiously. "I presume you're going to be waterproofing them, clothes do get rather heavy otherwise."

He hoped he wasn't insulting her, but he did want to make sure. He'd had one person offer him clothes for swimming before and it hadn't turned out well.

"Even with the amount of time we're spending here, it would take too long to dye. What colours we have in stock, is what we'll use and waterproof," Holly explained thinking more of the work it would take to dye something.

Also, unless you were in Gaia, it really wasn't worth doing a dye job on swimming clothes. Not when that same effort could be put into other types of clothes. And Holly still had to make proper spring clothes for her and Rose, while working on her graduation project.

Mailon nodded. "Just wondering how to tell them all apart, is all," he murmured in explanation. "There are so many of us, and so close in size."

Several of the men were probably almost exactly the same size, in fact, since elven men tended - even among the various races - to end up similar in height and build.

"What are the others getting?" Daenis asked Holly curiously.

Holly showed Daenis the other designs that the others have chosen. Among the women it was the most varied, as Daenis was the few (really only one besides Kyrie) who was comfortable with showing that much skin. Rose and Iorlas preferred to cover up more, while everyone else was in between choosing a variety of cuts in tops and bottoms.

"It's the men who have very similar or the same designs," Holly admitted, "I might have to sew in everyone's initials somewhere."

Though it would be using the Gaia alphabet to do so.

"Or simply embroider in a design of some sort," Daenis mused softly, smiling. "That is something Iorlas is quite skilled in, even if her sewing leaves room for improvement."

Mailon chuckled softly and put his arms loosely around his wife's shoulders, then leaned his chin lightly on the top of her head. "I think that would be nice. It's so rare that we have such embellishments on our clothes. And I know I never used to be one for such things, I must admit that it would add a little something to it."

"A design would be prettier than embroidering initials," Holly admitted, "And if it's a small one it should be fine."

Again, it was just something that took a lot of time. Now that Holly thought about it, pretty much everything when it came to making clothes took a lot of time. It was no wonder why most places had specialists in dying, lacing and so forth, instead of having one person do it all. No one would be able to get anything done otherwise.

"At any rate," the neko smiled, "I think I have everything, well... except measurements but I can wait until everyone comes in for the night."

Then she would get everyone at once, as long as she had someone to write it down.

"Actually, I don't have Shiro or Kaito's... but I don't think they'll be swimming..."
