Shiro and Kaito passed Miyuki, coming out as she was going in, but once they had set up a ring of torches burning around the massive carcass so that Kyrie, Shoneah and Mailon could see what they were doing, they also returned inside for the night.

As talk died down, the regular night sounds, absent since before the dragon had appeared, returned: crickets, frogs, and owls, guardians of the night.

The rest of the night passed without incident, with various people taking their turns watching. When morning came, the three working on the dragon had finished stacking the scales and were in the process of cutting up the meat. The smell was already quite strong, but thankfully the cool night had prevented it from becoming intolerable. Still, Wren, who had taken the final watch, had been forced to frighten off potential scavengers already.

The next day, Lin and Miyuki helped cook breakfast, between the watches and savaging the dragon, most of the group were tired. Miyuki also took breakfast to Iorlas, Dareon and Amir, figuring Iorlas at least wouldn't want to leave the tent until the whole thing was done and over with.

It was going to be a busy day for her due to the dragon. She would have to work right away on making that extra storage room.

Partway through the morning, there was a shout of greeting from the direction of the forest. Those who were outside turned to see who it was.

There was a group of Earth Elves emerging from the tree line, four of them; and each of them had bows and swords, as if they were on the hunt. Each of them had brown hair and skin, and they looked quite tired. They were almost dragging their feet, and those who had their bows in their hands, rather than on their backs, seemed about ready to drop them.

Miyuki was in the tent working on that storage unit. It wasn't hard, since she had already done this before, but it required her attention and meant she would be staying indoors rather than out.

Lin on the other hand was outside helping with the savaging. She greeted the group back, they looked very tired to her. As if their trip had been a hard one. It was a bit unusual, travelers normally rested if they had to unless it was an emergency, and hunters would not have gone out of they were tired. They looked like they were hunting but looked completely tired.

"Do you need a place to sit and rest?" she asked once the group was close enough.

If they were a danger they wouldn't have called out and frankly they looked too tired to even wield their swords.

"Please," one of the men replied immediately, flashing Lin a grateful look. The others looked grateful for the offer as well.

Earendil was of course out and helping as well, but now he left the dragon and wiped his hands on his pants. "I'll go get some water for them," he told Lin; and he headed into the tent.

Kyrie, Shoneah and Mailon were no longer outside, as, having worked through the night, all three of them had needed to rest; but Daeron was out as well, and Wren, and Shiro and Kaito. Andarien was nearby, training with his Pokemon, but he hadn't yet noticed their visitors.

"You seem as though you've been traveling hard," Daeron commented to the men as he cut some meat into strips for storage. "Something been chasing you?"

Lin motioned for them to take a seat around the unused fire pit. She had wondered the same thing and had stayed quiet to hear what they had to say on the matter.

"Between us chasing and it, and it chasing us, yes, the travel has indeed been hard," replied the man who had spoken already. The four men sat down gratefully and set their weapons on the ground.

All of them cast glances at the dragon, and one of them commented, "Seems you've taken care of our problem for us."

Lin blinked and then pointed to what was left of the dragon, "You were after that?"

That had been highly unexpected, she wondered if it attacked a town or something. It was pretty vicious on top of being very large.

"I know, with so few of us how could we ever have hoped to get rid of it?" the first man asked with a sigh. "We didn't start out with only four."

He glanced up as Earendil came out of the tent with several flasks of water. "There were twelve of us to begin with. But to return home without first making sure the beast was dead ... impossible. As long as we had no proof of its death, we could not live in peace."

Earendil passed out the water flasks, and the men all thanked him in turn.

"About two weeks ago," another of the men explained, "the dragon appeared and tried to burn our village. Thankfully our homes are made of rock, so they were safe, but our fields and animals were destroyed. Many lives were lost. Our only hope was to kill it."

"And so we have been after it since then," the first man concluded.

"It came across us last night," Lin explained picking up how this had come to happen.

From the sounds of it, it probably wouldn't have pass them by if Andarien hadn't spoken, but it also sounded like it wouldn't have taken much to set it off.

"And then attacked our camp, it was quite harrowing."

If they didn't have the kind of people with them that they did, they probably wouldn't be alive.

"It's amazing you survived it," said one of the men, looking around. "I don't see any graves."

"Well, we are fortunate to have people of a range of abilities in our party," Earendil explained with a faint smile. "That's not to say that it was easy, but we did manage to all survive."

"The comment has also been made that we seem to travel with the protection of the Valar," Wren spoke up as she joined the group. She had some plates of food, which she distributed to the men.

"That one I haven't heard," Lin commented wryly.

Though it wouldn't surprise her if someone had made that comment. They always seemed to have this push and pull between being put into the most epic situations and yet be able to make it out relatively unscathed for the most part.

"Come on, we know for a fact that Rhea's birth was due entirely to the intervention of one of the Valië," Wren pointed out. "You know the family you married into. Would it surprise you if the Valar were indeed watching over us? By request, even, perhaps?"

Earendil thought about it. He had learned from Rhea how Aragost - Aldrich, he silently corrected himself - had intervened for the happiness of Shael and Adonai. Would he not also intervene for the safety of his descendents?

"No, it wouldn't," Lin admitted.

Though she also admitted that it was hard to tell where that kind of protection started and where it ended. Still, Rhea had been an extra special case to Lin. She wouldn't have been born otherwise.

"Granted with all the unusually weird things that happen to us, I just sort of figured it went with the territory. This is not the first nor probably last close call we'll ever get."

"What do you mean by that?" the first of the Earth Elves asked curiously.

Earendil smiled. "Well, we are a group of many kinds of people, and we intend to travel the entire continent. Given the hostilities of some of the people against those who are different from themselves, we can almost guarantee that we will end up in at least a few more difficult situations. That being said, we haven't much choice but to continue. I am on royal commission to map the continent and learn as much as possible about the various countries."

"Many kinds of people, indeed," remarked another of the men, glancing at Lin, then at Shiro and Kaito. "What kind of people are you, anyways?"

"Well...." Lin replied with a bit of amusement.

It wasn't the first time they were asked this question, even though the words they used wouldn't mean anything to the people here.

"My race are called angels, and Shiro and Kaito are known as nekos."

She wasn't going to even get into the fact they could be divided further into angelic and demonic nekos because frankly that was getting complicated.

"Angels and nekos?" the man repeated softly, and it was obvious that the words didn't help him to understand any better.

Earendil smiled. "They are from a different world. Angels are winged beings, and nekos are beings with some cat-like features ... tails and ears, usually. Sometimes they are also winged, as Shiro and Kaito are."

The man nodded. "I see." He glanced at one of his companions as the other man yawned, then looked back at Lin and Earendil. "I don't suppose we could rest here until tomorrow?" he asked; and though he tried to keep his tone neutral, he couldn't hide his hope that they would agree. "We can't offer you anything ..."

"You need the rest," Lin told him firmly, "We don't have extra bedding unfortunately."

She wasn't sure if they wanted to sleep outside or not, though she figured they probably thought they would have to. That tent really didn't look like it could handle more people from the outside.

"We do have extra blankets though."

"A fire and some blankets would be very welcome," the man replied gratefully. "Thank you."

"I'll speak to Lancaeriel about preparing some food for them to take with them when they leave," Wren offered, rising to her feet once more. "And I'll see if we have any extra flasks."

"If not, we can make some," Earendil pointed out, nodding at the dragon's carcass. The hide would work for making - well, a lot of different things, if they had the time.

"I'll go get the blankets," Lin replied as she got up from where she was sitting, "And we'll see about starting that fire."

She knew how tiredness could make one feel cold.

"Just a moment," she told the group before heading back into the tent.

Inside, the voices had woken Kyrie, and she was now in the kitchen, slicing up some fruit for her breakfast. Despite her lack of sleep the night before, and the few hours she'd gotten since then, she was remarkably alert, though the way she was standing, leaning against the table, showed that she was also very relaxed.

"Morning, Lin," she greeted Lin when she came inside. "Do I hear voices out there? Aside from our group, I mean?"

Lin nodded, "It turned out that dragon from last night tried torched a village. So a hunting party was set out to go after it. Though from the looks of it, the hunt has taken quite a toll on them."

The fact there were more according to the party didn't bode well, and showed how dangerous the dragon was.

"I'm going to get blankets for them, and hoping to start a fire so they can rest. They've just been run ragged and they don't appear to have much in the of supplies."

Kyrie's brow furrowed slightly, and she pushed herself away from the table, swallowing down her mouthful of fruit.

"If you want to get blankets, I'll have Uruloki start the fire," she offered. "Then it'll take no time at all. Let me just grab some wood."

She cut out the last bit of the fruit from its peel and stuffed it in her mouth, then wiped her knife on her skirt and sheathed it at her waist before turning to get some wood from the wood storage room.

"Okay, thanks," Lin nodded.

They kept the extra blankets in the living room if she recalled correctly. She grabbed as many as she could, in case they wanted something to soften where they would lay. Lin would come out a good ten minutes later with a pile of blankets in her arms.

The men were still eating when Lin returned outside, though not nearly as voraciously as when she had left them. In the meantime, Wren had also found water for the four of them, though the flasks were now empty and she was on her way inside to fill them again. Earendil was still talking with them, and when Lin came out with the blankets, the men all smiled faintly, eagerness flashing in their eyes.

Earendil followed their gazes and saw Lin (since he hadn't heard her come out) and now he rose to help her hand out the blankets.

"Quite a few of them you brought," he commented softly, smiling, as he reached out to take some from her.
