"I don't see why not," Lin replied, "In fact it would be interesting to see a volcano from this region."

Some of them had already seen a volcano before, but that was on an island and the volcano (while still having flowing lava) was relatively not active. While the earthquakes in this region suggested that the volcanoes here were relatively active, or at least more so than what they saw at Nauros.

Kyrie smiled, then laughed softly. "Well. You've surprised me yet again. You do realize that most people try to stay away from volcanoes?"

"Well, we're quite different from most people, in case you hadn't noticed," Earendil chuckled, his eyes sparkling.

"Earendil has a point," Lin grinned, "We'll be fine, we'll be careful."

She was well aware it could be dangerous, but trusted Kyrie to choose a place that wouldn't be too dangerous since they had to extract whatever mineral it was that they needed.

Kyrie smiled and spread her hands, bowing her head in acquiescence. "If you say so," she grinned. "Then north it is."

"We're going to do some hunting as well now," Daeron added. "We haven't got much left after giving it to the villagers ..."

"There is plenty of game on the way," Kyrie promised him.

"I guess it's settled," Miyuki nodded, "So lead the way. If we need to stop anywhere for a few days, then we will."

The last time they stopped didn't quite count. Since they had intended to go on a hunt while they stopped for a few days, not be attacked by a dragon and then end up gathering the meat off of that.

Kyrie nodded again, thinking now, planning out their new route.

"We should probably hunt first," she murmured, her pace slowing slightly as she led them forward. "We'll be out of the trees by tonight ... after that it's bare rock for the rest of the country, and hardly anything lives there. There's not enough shelter."

She looked at Miyuki. "We've food enough for a few days, right?"

"Yes," Miyuki nodded, "We should be fine for a few days at least."

That would give them enough time to hunt for more provisions then, especially if that meant they had to stay in one place so they could gather those provisions.

Kyrie nodded. "Then we'll push on to the open plain tonight, set up there, and hunt tomorrow," she decided. "Perhaps Cael and Lancaeriel can offer some suggestions for protection?"

She looked at the two magi. "You two seem to have quite a few tricks up your sleeves."

The two exchanged a glance, and then Lancaeriel looked back at Kyrie. "You mean a barrier of some kind?"

Kyrie shrugged. "You would know better than me."

Cael considered the idea. "Well ... I mean, it's possible, of course, but ... it's very draining, depending on the level of protection you want."

Miyuki looked thoughtful, a full barrier protection was very draining. Even if you used focus points, frankly setting up traps was probably a lot easier, though again time consuming and did require a storage of magic. Still, she waited to see what the two had to say.

The two magi conferred quietly together for a few moments longer, and then Lancaeriel turned to Kyrie once more. "What if, instead of a barrier, we prepared a ... an early warning, if you like. Runes set up around the camp that can give us a warning when something unwanted is approaching."

"Of course, to calibrate it for specific things only would be challenging," Cael added.

"It would probably be easier to simply have people watch," Lancaeriel shrugged. "Otherwise it just gets very complicated. If we were all going to stay in it, it would be one thing, but if we want to leave, then we have to adjust it. And we could simply have an alarm for whenever someone or something passes through it, but then it would be set off by any animal no matter their size or intention."

Miyuki had to agree, even the early warning systems she had read about from the book Shiro had read through from the family home was based to be used in a house. Where one could control who was coming and going. A camp was far more difficult.

"And I'd imagine saying it up for a camp, a temporary place would be far more time consuming than it's worth," Lin murmured.

Having grown up with the ones in the home, she could only imagine how long it took to imprint those into the walls.

"Precisely," Lancaeriel nodded. "Besides, we've been doing well enough as it is. Aside from Earendil disappearing on us in Garnelia, we've not had any trouble with night watches."

Kyrie smiled and held up her hands defensively. "All right, all right," she smiled. "I get it. I just thought people might like the chance to sleep through the night."

"Thanks for the thought, but I think we've all grown used to staying awake for at least part of the night," Wren laughed. "And there are enough of us that if we really wanted, we could take a break from it."

This was true, the group had grown to be quite large which helped them greatly when keeping a look out for trouble.

"That's true," Lin smiled, "It's a good thing there's many of us."

Andarien didn't say anything. He still wanted to help, to keep watch; but now he realized, after the incident with the dragon, just why he was not allowed to keep watch. He simply didn't know how, didn't have the patience or the skill.

They kept up the pace, and it was not yet dark when they once more left the trees and found themselves out in the open. They spent the better part of a week there, until they had found enough game to replenish their depleted stores, and then they moved on again, once more heading north. Every few days there was an earth tremor, but they were not much stronger than the ones in Makshim had been, and Kyrie assured everyone there was nothing to worry about. That being said, Lancaeriel and Cael did take the time and energy to add some runes to Miyuki's array on the tent so that it would not be damaged, weakened, or allow the shaking to affect the inside of the tent, in case of the tremors.

Miyuki was grateful for the help, those were protections she didn't know. Better yet, it allowed her to learn through the tent in how those protections were made. In a lot of ways the mobile home became a platform for Miyuki to learn more about rune making. Especially in creating spaces.

One of those spaces she was trying to make as they continued onward was a bathing room (or two).

"Perhaps," Lancaeriel suggested when Miyuki asked her for advice one evening when they had stopped for the night, "we should focus for a while on water runes, and runes for emptying things."

She herself had been mulling over a solution to the problem for a while, as Miyuki (and others) had been talking about it, but only in the past day had she come up with what she considered to be a workable solution for the desired room.

"By that," she added, "I mean - if we had a room, perhaps two, for bathing, rather than worrying about bringing in water each time we wanted to wash and then having to empty it out afterwards, we could have a tub in each room with two rune arrays on them: one to fill them with water, and the other to empty it. Using magic, we won't have to worry about waster or things not working anymore."

"I have a question then," Miyuki then suggested to Lancariel, "Could you make runes that fill a space from the top, like a waterfall, or better yet like rain, and then at the same time drain out so nothing gathers? Like the showers in Caras Galadhon?"

She loved baths, don't get her wrong, but like the winged beings she was slowly finding that showers were more practical on a lot of levels.

Lancaeriel thought about it. "I believe so," she said slowly. "Perhaps we could have two rooms then? One for a shower, and one for a bath? There are those who prefer to soak, and it is better to soak when one has sore muscles, or injuries."

She smiled at Miyuki. "What do you think?"

The kitsune clapped her hands together and nodded at this eagerly.

"I think that would be perfect, I had considered a shower since the wings and things tend to get in the way of a good bath."

Lancaeriel laughed at her student's enthusiasm.

"Well, let me talk to Daeron about the things we'll need, and then we can work on that," she smiled. "Unless someone else here is skilled in woodwork?"

She said it as a question, looking at Miyuki, since Miyuki would probably know the people in the group better than her, even after all this time.

Miyuki paused and thought about it, that was a good question after all.

"No... I don't think so," she shook her head after a moment.

If anyone else was good at woodworking she didn't know about it

Lancaeriel nodded. "Then whenever we get to either a village or an area with trees, we can get the things we need. In a village we can just buy them, but I'm sure we could ask him to make what we need if necessary."

She wasn't sure which they would find first. After all, it was Kyrie who knew this continent, not her.

Miyuki nodded in agreement, "Depending on where we end up next but that won't be for a while, but until then, as you said, the focus would be on water runes."

She shrugged, there would be a lot of planning to figure out what worked first before anything else, though Lancaeriel probably knew, it was something that Miyuki liked to figure out.

"And that might take a bit."

Not that she minded, she knew what she needed, it was just figuring out which runes and then what sort of array and how it would be all connected.

"We could always ask Kyrie what the plan is," Lancaeriel smiled. "It might be easier to figure out what we can do, and when."

She hesitated a moment, then added softly, "And ... one thing that occurred to me ... Kyrie seems quite adamant that while we pass through Jielam, we remain undetected ... but in a land that is, to my understanding, snow and ice, it will be easy for the tent to be spotted. Have you considered camouflaging runes or something similar?"

"Actually," Miyuki paused and thought about it, "I hadn't thought about it at all."

It wasn't one of the things she considered when making the tent, but to be fair there was a lot of parts to consider.

"Though now that you mention it, camouflaging runes would be a good idea, or something that makes the eye pass over it, but I don't know how the latter would be possible."

But she had heard the brain was capable of missing things if focused on something else.
