"I've never seen siblings so different in appearance," Chelan mused.

"To be fair, until yesterday, I had never seen anyone so different in appearance, related or not," Atl added with a soft chuckle.

Nix of course knew just why that was. "Our race has remained pure since the beginning," she reminded her husband and brother in law. "It makes a difference, after all." Then she turned to Miyuki, a light blush rising in her cheeks. "I mean no offense."

"None taken," Miyuki assured Nix, "In the context of how your people live under water, and the fact elves on this continent tend to not have any Gifts if they have children with other elves not of the same race, it makes sense why that is important."

Most, because Miyuki had seen examples of where that wasn't always the case. Amir being one of them, his immunity to hot and cold should have probably not been passed from his parents to him as that was a magical Gift.

Nix smiled. It was indeed important for the Water Elves to keep their blood pure. It was the key to their way of life.

"Are there many more rooms to see?" Atl asked, changing the subject. "I don't mean to rush you, but we do have to get home by dinner time."

And while the afternoons were long (at least longer than in Gaia), they didn't last forever, and they did have to walk or swim back afterwards.

"That's fair," Miyuki nodded.

She hadn't realized how large everything had grown until she had started going through them.

"We have a few bedrooms left, but there are also the rooms in the other hall. We could go there next instead," she offered.

"Well, there are a lot of you, and to see every bedroom will probably take quite a while," Atl reasoned. "We have already seen how very different they can be, I think it would be nice to move on to some of the other rooms."

He had no idea what to expect in the other rooms, but at this point they were just being nosy in peoples' rooms, and how much more could they see in there?

"Let's do that then," Miyuki offered as she motioned to them to follow her out of the hallway.

The other rooms, she figured would offered a change of pace, especially the gardens. Leading them back to the kitchen, she opened the door to the other hallway.

The first room on her right being the forge.

The forge was more or less unchanged, with the forge itself in one corner, the work table and anvil in the middle of the room, and shelves of materials and completed and semi-completed projects.

At the moment, there were lumps of littinum sitting on one shelf next to the forge, and Andarien and Shoneah were standing with their backs to the door, watching a piece of littinum that was sitting in the forge. Xipil was in the forge with the littinum, and the fire was so hot that it glowed white-blue against his midnight scales. Lunch had only recently finished, but Lashrael had rejoined them in there, and she was leaning against a countertop, one hand shielding her eyes against the brightness of the fire.

The heat in the room was so intense that it was visible, and looking through the room, everything shimmered in waves.

"Wow," Atl murmured, squinting into the heat and nudging Nix further into the hallway. "And yet from the hall, one can't feel it ..."

"Fortunately because a door is simply a portal to another space, it can be kept separate," Miyuki replied as she quickly closed the door again.

The kitsune wiped her brow as it was far too hot with her, especially for parts of her body that had fur.

"I don't know how they can stand it... Let's head down to the lab this way..."

Atl, Nix and Chelan followed Miyuki in silence, each of them wiping sweat from their brows. Usually heat didn't mean anything to them, but the heat in the forge was something else, something they had never experienced before.

"What exactly do they do in there?" Chelan asked as they walked down the hallway. "I have never seen or heard of anything like that."

Of course, metalwork was foreign to the Water Elves, since they lived underwater.

"They do metalwork, turning metals that can be found into things can be used. Anything small from nails, quill tips and metal trimming, to larger works like weapons or gears. All those objects in Andarien's room that uses gears, are made in metalwork," Miyuki explained.

It made her wonder then if Chelan's comment about the chunk of littium that was in Eron's room being useless, wasn't because it was hard to work with, but rather because the Water Elves didn't do metalwork, even on land.

Then again they did only stay on land until their children grew, so there wouldn't be much point in learning metalwork.

She thought about this as she opened the door to the lab, expecting someone to be in there because there nearly always was.

The lab seemed to be a very busy place at the moment, though that wasn't exactly unusual. Khetal was in his area, adjusting a tiny scale, while Wren was next to him, carefully slicing up a root. Khetal's area was separated from the others by the tables that held his supplies and experiments, and just by looking it was clear which area belonged to whom. Khetal's area held mostly plants, Eron's had mostly earthy things, and Shiro's ... was very random.

Shiro and Kaito were at Shiro's desk, and they seemed to be having an argument of some kind - in English, of course.

"you'll never know if you don't bother experimenting with it," Kaito was saying to Shiro. He was sitting on Shiro's desk, facing his brother, his tail twitching with annoyance. His voice wasn't loud, but it was insistent. "If you don't know if you can get more, just ask Eron, he would know!"

Shiro was sitting in his chair, leaning back, legs crossed, patiently ignoring Kaito as he tapped away on his tablet.

The Water Elves looked around in wonder. They really didn't have any idea what they were looking at.

Eron was in the middle of creating of extracting salt from an earth sample that had been near by. It was always interesting to him, how in Gaia, it was far too easy to get too much salt, while here, because everything was fresh and made from scratch, they had to make sure they had salt in stock. Fortunately it wasn't hard to find salt deposits in the earth.

And of course there was a different from the salt they would eat and the salt one could bath in (the latter was good to sell to those who wanted a bit luxury).

Miyuki leaned in and explained softly, "This place is a workshop for both research and creation. Khetal's work is based on plants and medicine, Eron's is based on earth and the mixing of... minerals I guess you'd call them, and Shiro researches a lot of different things. I'm not sure what he's working on at the moment."

"It looks busy in here," Atl commented, peering in.

Shiro and Kaito were still arguing, though in low tones, but it was enough for Nix to hang back shyly. Chelan looked around thoughtfully at everything, but there wasn't really anything that interested him in there - except perhaps the discussion between the nekos.

"Trouble?" he asked Miyuki quietly, nodding towards the two.

Miyuki understood that without knowing the language, it probably sounded pretty bad.

"They just are in disagreement in how to do one of Shiro's experiments," Miyuki replied off-handly, "Kaito is always up for the direct approach."

Though she hoped that Kaito wasn't arguing for Shiro to look into magic again. While she would like to discuss with Shiro hybrid technology using magic, she understood that he didn't want to. Kaito, was sometimes far too logical for his own good, which was as confusing as everything else about Kaito.

Chelan nodded silently. He didn't want to enter the room and disturb people, though, so he took a step back away from the door. The others didn't seem interested in going in, either, and Atl turned to Miyuki again.

"Is there more?" he asked her.

He presumed so, since they had seen only a few people since lunch, but for all he knew, others could have gone outside again.

"Yes," Miyuki nodded, "There's another hallway in this hallway that leads to the gardens."

Miyuki loved the gardens because it allowed for all sorts of plants to grow, and it allowed them to have a reason to collect saplings. It also ensured they always had fresh food, even with the preservation containers, it was nice to have something picked just from the vine.

She chose to go to one of the gardens that actually had vegetables growing in it, as there were some gardens that had nothing at all.

The garden that grew the the most the best was the garden that was moderately hot and and very humid, like the tropical rainforest climate in which they were at present. It had also been expanded the most, and was therefore the largest of the gardens, which, by this point, meant that was about the size of a football field. There were trees growing at various stages, ferns and jungle grass, and all kinds of plants bearing food: fruit trees like mangoes and guava, bananas, and many many more; vegetables that, in this climate and with this humidity, were growing to nearly double the size they would reach in a less humid climate; and many plants, including brilliantly coloured flowers, that were there simply to mirror the real-life environment.

Of course, to go with the plants were some of the insects necessary for them to grow, and from an area deeper within the trees came the buzz of an active apiary which, as yet, had not yielded enough honey to feed the travelers but which was well on its way to doing so.

For a moment the guests just stared, and then Nix asked hesitantly, "I ... would ask if you were sure we hadn't stepped outside, but ... this ... is not what the area looks like."

Miyuki nodded, "This is one of the gardens, here we grow a lot of fruits, vegetables, herbs and other types of plants that we sort of collected while traveling. It's grown a lot since Lancerial first made the space, but the work in maintain and growing it was done by Wren."

She didn't know whose idea it was to get bees, or how they got a hold of a queen, she suspected Shiro, and/or Khetal had something to do with that. Granted, it made sense, it ensured that the plants here would always get pollinated, rather than doing it by hand (that would take forever).

"It allows us to have fresh food while traveling, and be able to bring foods that normally can't exist in countries we visit to them," Miyuki explained.

Nix and Atl stepped into the garden and looked around. No one could deny that this was amazing, even after seeing so many incredible things in this tent.

Miyuki nodded, "Lancerial created gardens with different climates and soil types. It just happens to be in a climate much like your country, most plants grow the best, so this garden is the fullest. We also have another garden, or outdoor space that is the home of Mirania and Lamruil. They are Light Elves from Quir, in their country they live in very large trees, building their homes there, which is why they live in a garden and not have their own room.... I also have my own practice space as well."

Miyuki always knew doing plant magic was going to be hard, hard work. Her garden looked more like a sparse meadow full of wild flowers. In Gaian cities they might be called weeds, but they were fast growing plants and so easiest to grow. She tended to grow a lot of Queen's Lace, Forget-Me-Nots, Bell flowers, and Buttercups to name a few. Though she had been practicing with ivy, as they made wonderful binding plants.

"It really is incredible," Atl murmured, still looking around in amazement.

Nix reached out and took her husband's hand. "Come, we should keep going," she reminded him softly. "We have to return soon."

Atl nodded and returned to the door where Chelan and Miyuki still waited. "We're ready."

Miyuki considered what the show them next, "There's two more workshops, other than that, there are only the storage rooms left and the rooms we use to clean ourselves..."

But if they wanted, they could see the other two workshops. There was the dojo of course, but it was sparse, as it was used to practice fighting, so it wasn't interesting to look at.

Nix peered down the hallway towards the kitchen to see where Teslin was. It had been quite a while since they had left him with Amir ...

"There is one for wood carving and the other is a sewing and dying room for clothes and other textiles," Miyuki explained, "Uncle Dareon carves pretty much anything, and has made most of the furniture in the tent, while Auntie Iorlas, along with Holly makes clothes. Though they could also make blankets as well."

She also heard Holly muttered about teaching lace making, while also muttering it would be just easier to buy it (though expensive). Really it took so long to make lace, it wasn't worth it for Holly to make it herself. An article of clothing that could take weeks, could instead take months if one had to make the lace from scratch. It was one of the few things she missed from Gaia, and Miyuki made note to herself that might be something worth investing in to take back from Gaia.

The three Water Elves looked at each other as if hoping someone else would make the decision as to whether or not to see the last two workshops and the storage and bathing rooms. It was Atl who spoke for the group.

"We've already seen a variety of rooms," he said, turning once more to Miyuki, "so it's quite apparent to us how you live and travel with so many people. I think our time, for now, would be better spent getting back to our son and returning home."

"But thank you for the tour," Nix spoke up with a shy smile. "It was very enlightening."
